Charlene takes on state challenge
MWAS Scholarship Coach Charlene Watters has been rewarded for her hard work by being selected as the Western Australian State Women’s Country team coach.
Charlene coached the Geraldton women’s Country Week Team in June and is also involved with the Mid West Hockey Academy. On top of this she coaches a junior half field team, plays for the Saints A-Grade, and is President of the Geraldton Hockey Association.
Coaching a state country team comes with its challenges, one of those being the team spread out all over Western Australia. To help with this Charlene has sought advice from Central West Health and Rehabilitation to help her plan a fitness program and some recovery sessions for during the tournament.
"I'm very excited to be given this opportunity to coach at the next level after Coaching at club and county week level.” Said Watters
“It will be a great chance for me to improve and develop my coaching skills and knowledge of the game.”
“I would also like to thank MWSA for their support and advice”
There will be a couple of familiar faces in the team comes together. Mikalia Watson, MWAS athlete, and Mikala Cooper, also from Geraldton have both been selected as athletes in the team.
The State Women’s Country Team will compete in Wollongong from the 8th of August to the 15th of August.
