Reluctant Farewell to the MWAS Treasurer

With some regret, the MWAS said farewell to Treasurer Ryan Thompson at a function at the Freemasons Hotel. Ryan has been part of the MWAS story from the very early days of conception through to providing sterling service in the role of Treasurer on the MWAS Board. Ryan’s own experiences as a young basketball athlete were a strong part of his desire to help young Mid West athletes who strive to achieve their goals in sport and life. “I wish something like the Mid West Academy of Sport had been around when I was a young athlete” said Ryan. “The opportunities to develop in so many areas such as mental skills and strength training would have really helped me. I am very happy to have played a part in ensuring the young athletes can now access these services and they can be on a par with other regions and Perth“.

Ryan has been a very active board member not only as the Treasurer, but also in his general enthusiasm and seeking better ways to operate. MWAS Board Chair Gary Clark acknowledged the value of Ryan’s contribution when he said “I could always rely on Ryan to challenge or bring in new ideas and that was a very important in keeping the board on its toes. He will be missed, but we wish him all the best with this career move”.

The MWAS gives our best wishes to Ryan, Lana and their boys on the move to Perth and we hope it won’t be too long before they return to Geraldton and to helping young Mid West athletes to be the best they can be.
