Lexie’s Leaping Year finishes at All Schools

MWAS scholarship athlete Lexie Stoner completed in her last competition for 2015 at the Athletics Australia All Schools championships at Olympic Park in Melbourne last weekend. Lexie achieved an equal PB of 1.60m in the U16 Girls High Jump and was the best placed Western Australian. This was a solid achievement considering the preparation was interrupted by injury. Coach Jacko Whitby confirmed it was a good effort “Lexie did very well considering we were not able to do a full training load”.

The young Nagle College student was herself happy with the performance. “I came close to clearing 1.65m, which would have been a PB. I just didn’t get quite enough knee drive and clipped the bar”. Finishing 7th was a good result for Lexie as she noted “I was the youngest in the field and with one more year in this age bracket I am looking forward to going better next year with another year of training under my belt”.

The next major competition for Lexie will be the Australian Junior Championships to be hosted in Perth in March 2016. Coach Jacko is confident they can “manage the injuries well and build up for age nationals”. Perth is Lexie’s favourite track with that “little extra spring in the runway”. Not having to travel will be an extra bonus, although Lexie did admit to a little “shopping therapy” in the retail mecca of Melbourne after nationals. Perhaps a national medal will be on the shopping list in Perth come March 2016?
