Dan Hunt
EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Dan joined MWAS as Executive Officer in December 2024, bringing a lifelong passion for sport and a deep connection to the Geraldton community. “I am excited by the direction MWAS is heading and the unlimited potential the program has to assist athletes and coaches.”
Growing up next to the local sports ground, sport was Dan’s gateway to connection and opportunity. He went on to earn a BSc in Education from the University of Portland and enjoyed a 17-year professional basketball career, including 16 seasons with the Geraldton Buccaneers.
A proud Geraldton local since 1989, Dan is committed to building a strong team and ensuring MWAS continues to thrive for years to come. “I love this city!”

Gary Clark
BOARD CHAIR
Gary was one of the original visionaries behind the creation of the Mid West Academy of Sport. As the former Mid West Manager for the Department of Sport and Recreation, he played a key role in establishing the Academy to support local athletes in their pursuit of excellence and to provide a high-performance training environment close to home.
A former state-level distance runner, Gary has been involved in sport for over 60 years. He is a Life Member of Surf Life Saving WA, Geraldton Surf Life Saving Club, Brigades Football Club, and Geraldton Harriers Running Club.
With 35 years of experience across government and corporate sectors, Gary brings a deep understanding of the sports industry—from regional grassroots to the international stage. His leadership, strategic vision, and ability to empower others make him a valued contributor to the continued success and growth of MWAS.

Gerard Marquis
VICE CHAIRMAN
Gerard has had a lifelong love of sport—both as a player and a passionate supporter. With over 17 years of involvement in talent development pathways, he strongly believes in the mission of MWAS and the importance of supporting regional athletes to reach their full potential.
His diverse background in sales, management, media, and finance gives Gerard valuable insight into both sport and business. As a current MWAS coach working directly with scholarship athletes, he brings hands-on experience to the board. Gerard is also committed to advocating for local member sports he’s actively involved in, ensuring their voices are heard and their athletes supported.

Natasha Colliver
BOARD SECRETARY
Natasha first joined the MWAS Board under the financial agreement with the City of Greater Geraldton. When the agreement ended, she was invited to continue in her role, bringing her deep passion for the vital social role sport plays in local communities.
With 15 years of experience on the Great Northern Junior Football Board, Natasha has a strong background in governance and strategic decision-making. She is committed to supporting the MWAS Chair and Executive Officer while contributing actively to the Board’s work.

Jay Prow
BOARD MEMBER
Jay Prow joined the Mid West Academy of Sport (MWAS) board with a desire to learn more about the organisation and to bring insights from other disciplines to help MWAS grow and thrive in the future. Jay has been involved in organised sport since he was 8, initially as a competitor, and over the last 20 years, he has also taken on roles as a coach, umpire, and team manager.
In his current role as the Sport & Leisure Planner at the City of Greater Geraldton, Jay combines his understanding of what it takes to be both an athlete and a team manager in high-performance environments. He is passionate about promoting and representing the core values of MWAS to the community. Jay is excited to collaborate with other board members to explore new opportunities for the continued growth of MWAS.

Bonnie Crook
DLGSC REPRESENTATIVE
Bonnie is the Regional Officer for the DLGSC Mid West office, bringing a wealth of experience in sports administration from her time with various state sporting associations. Originally from Albany, she made the move to Geraldton in mid-2024 to continue her passion for community and high-performance sport.
A talented athlete, Bonnie has competed at a state level in both hockey and cricket, with her highest achievement being selection in the inaugural Australian Hockey 5’s 2023 World Cup squad. She has been deeply involved in hockey, cricket, disabled surfing, and soccer across the Great Southern, both as a player and coach. Holding multiple coaching accreditations and a Certificate II in Sports Coaching, Bonnie is passionate about mentoring young athletes to reach their full potential on and off the field.

Claire McLean
BOARD MEMBER
Claire brings the experience of competing as an international athlete for 14 years, an education and career in both legal and health science fields and the understanding and resilience of overcoming adversity. Claire’s goal is to share learnings from her athletic journey to those just starting out and to give back to sports.
“Sports stand on the shoulders of volunteers and it was time for me to repay the gratitude. Sports and fitness have always played an integral part of my life and always will. I fell in love with bicycles and cycling from the first time my feet left the ground.”
Claire brings guidance on legal and governance matters and decision making from an athlete (high performance) centric perspective.

Peter Fiorenza
GENERAL DIRECTOR
Peter is passionate about sport, youth development, and the future of Geraldton and the Mid West region. While he humbly admits he’s not a standout athlete, Peter deeply values the role sport plays in building stronger, more connected communities and the positive social impact it can have.
With experience on several sporting boards—including the Geraldton Hockey Association, Great Northern Football League, and the Mid West Sports Federation—Peter brings a broad perspective shaped by his professional background in education and journalism. He offers a unique voice on the MWAS Board, approaching its direction through multiple lenses to ensure it delivers on its mission in a way that’s both thoughtful and locally relevant.
